The Phatory LLC Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by Gillian Kenny. The exhibition opens September 9 and runs through October 3. An artist's reception will take place on September 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

It's often mentioned that when working with the camera, the artist is paraphrasing reality. Gillian Kenny's exhibition of silkscreen prints on steel at The Phatory does so in an accomplished manner. In this body of work, Kenny harvested images she happened upon while walking the streets of Belfast, Northern Ireland and in her native town of Limerick, Ireland. Scenes of abandonment, replete with discarded bathtubs, mattresses, and desolate courtyards, have become in her hands magnets drawing the viewers' attention to the mesmerizing qualities of the objects she has focused on. The combination of image, material and technique result in captivating depictions of life's underpinnings.

Currently, Gillian Kenny lives and works in Limerick, Ireland. She has a Masters in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. Additionally, she has recently published a catalogue of her work titled: friends in high places.
