The Phatory Art Gallery

Something In Return

The Phatory LLC is pleased to announce Something In Return, an installation by Poogy Bjerklie. The exhibition opens on October 12, and will run through November 11, with an artist’s reception held on Thursday, October 12th, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Poogy Bjerklie’s installation at The Phatory acts as a tableau of her emotions made visible. As she has described her turns of thought about her creative process: "The paint and the image and the memory mingle fluidly until, eventually a feeling surfaces that liberate an emotion that may produce a painting." Her work recalls the romantic ideals pursued by artists of the Hudson River School, whose idealized depictions of nature offer momentary respites from mankind’s reckless dance with modernity. Her multi-layered wall and framed paintings entice viewers to enter serene renditions of the Maine landscape that she is able to recall from childhood memories to quieting and ethereal affect.

Ms. Bjerklie’s artistic career spans many disciplines. She holds a BFA from the Maine College in metalsmithing. Her textile work has been exhibited as part of several NEA sponsored shows of Appalachian art in Tennessee and Missouri. Her textiles have also been exhibited at Saks Fifth Avenue. She has been the subject of KETC-TV’s "St. Louis Skyline," and is the recipient of the City of Philadelphia’s "Dresses of the World" award.
